Introduction
All in all, this was a very successful fortnight. I have gathered much material,
food-for-thought, and contacts during this trip - enough to keep me busy for
several months. The following is therefore more of a report in note form than
an analysis. Generally, I have picked out in green the words, phrases and sentences
that are of particular interest and/or bear much further analysis and thought.

DARPA Workshop on Exoskeletons for Human Performance Augmentation :
In certain respects, this was probably the best part of the trip, as far as
my research is concerned. I believe there is quite probably an entire chapter
that will come from this three-day immersion in the world of the US military
and their scientific R&D operations.

Exoskeletons for Human Performance Augmentation
The conference was described as a 'Teaming Workshop'. Essentially, the morning sessions on each of the three days were given over to military personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines, who gave presentations about what they were after, what their requirements were, and the afternoon sessions were given over to a series of 15min presentations by engineers and bio- mechanics from all over the US, describing the current state of their research. There was one buyer - Dr. Ephrahim Garcia, of DARPA, with $50m of DoD money in his pocket. The morning sessions were of great interest to me. The afternoon sessions, essentially, were not.
